Boeing delivers 8,000th 737 to original customer, United

Showcasing a relationship going back almost 50 years, US airframer Boeing has delivered to United Airlines the 8,000th Boeing 737 to come off their production lines. United Airlines was the first airline to order, and take delivery of the 737, way back in 1965. Since then it has operated the 737-200, -300, -500, -700, -800 and -900. United had phased out the 737 from their fleet, but reacquired them after merging with Continental Airlines. The combined United currently has over 265 737’s in their fleet.

The Boeing 737 is the world’s best selling commercial airplane and the first commercial airplane to reach the 8,000 deliveries milestone. The new aircraft is a Boeing 737-900ER registered N68821, and features a small celebratory logo next to the front passenger door. So keep a lookout for this plane, and do let us know if you fly in it.
