Video: Etihad to fly to Dallas-Fort Worth

Abu Dhabhi based Etihad Airways PJSC has announced it will fly to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), thrice a week, from December 3, 2014, making it the second middle-eastern carrier after Dubai-based Emirates to do so.

DFW, will be the fifth destination in the United States for Etihad, following Chicago O’Hare, New York JFK, Washington Dulles, and Los Angeles. Like Emirates, the airline will use Boeing 777-200LRs on the route. The aircraft will be configured to carry 237 guests, with 8 Diamond first class suites, 40 Pearl business class flat-bed seats, and 189 Coral economy class seats.

Flight EY161 will depart every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from Abu Dhabi at 09:45 and arrive in Dallas-Fort Worth at 16:30. EY160, will depart Dallas-Fort Worth at 18:45 and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 19:50 the following day. The schedule is times to provide strong connections to the Indian sub-continent.

[bsu_quote cite=”James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways”]“Abu Dhabi’s unique geographical position, as well as Etihad Airways’ extensive flight network and those of partner airlines, such as Jet Airways in India and American Airlines, will ensure air travellers have an unparalleled proposition when flying between the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent and the United States.” [/bsu_quote] Dallas is the largest hub for American Airlines with whom Etihad Airways has a code-share agreement. Etihad will use new service to provide strong connectivity to interior US destinations. While Etihad projects, much of the US demand will initially come from the oil and gas sector, which has significant connections with Abu Dhabi and the Middle East, it is surprising that the airline still does not serve Houston, the oil and gas capital of Texas, and to which all of its three other middle-eastern competitors, Emirates, Qatar, and Turkish, fly to.
