Uber and Ola cabs get dedicated pick-up zones at Bangalore Kempegowda airport

Taxi aggregators Uber and Ola Cabs have signed agreements with airport operator Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) to offer their customers dedicated pick-up zones at Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport.

Both the dedicated ‘Ola Zone’ and ‘U Zone’ appear to be located near P2 parking just behind the BMTC Vayu Vajra Bus Stand.

Customers can make their booking soon after landing and proceed to their respective pick-up zones. Their taxis will reach the dedicated zones within three minutes. Ola and Uber have stationed reps in the arrivals area to guide passengers. They will also offer Wi-Fi access to assist passengers in making bookings to overcome Bangalore airport’s notorious lack of cellular data signal in the arrivals area.

BIAL gains by de-congesting the passenger pick-up zone right in front of the terminal arrivals area.

Uber’s fares

As per Uber’s website the new fare is Rs 180 base fare + Rs 120 toll + Rs 8 per km + Rs 1 per minute.

This will mean a ride from the airport to MG Road, the centre of town, which is about 36 km and takes about 60 minutes will cost about Rs 180+120+288+60 = Rs 648. To Koramangala a distance of 41km and 90 minutes on average will cost about Rs 718. The fare is common to both sedans and SUVs i.e. in the Uber X (mostly Toyota Etios, Suzuki Swift Dzire, Mahindra Verito) and Uber XL/SUV (mostly Toyota Innova) category.

Ola, has not disclosed any airport specific fare details on its blog post, so one can assume their regular fares will apply.

No cash is popular

Many passengers have commented to Bangalore Aviation they prefer Uber and Ola as these services offer ‘non-cash’ payment models including wallets like PayTM and Ola Money.
