Brazilian airframer Embraer and Horizon Air have signed a contract for 30 E175 jets with options for 33 more. The order which is the largest in the airline’s history is valued at $2.8 billion at current list prices and will be delivered over a three year period beginning next year.
Horizon Air will use the E175’s to fly lower density routes where there may not be enough traffic to sustain a larger aircraft. Apart from route expansion, the aircraft will also be used to replace 15 of the airline’s leased Bombardier Q400s, which are scheduled for return in 2018.
