Boeing begins major assembly on 787-10 Dreamliner

American airframer Boeing has initiated major assembly on its 787-10 Dreamliner two weeks ahead of schedule in Nagoya, Japan. All final assembly will take place in North Charleston, South Carolina next year, followed by first delivery to United Airlines in 2018.

The 787-10 that Boeing describes as a straightforward stretch of the 787-9 has 95% design similarities with its predecessor. It will be 18 feet (5.5 meters) longer than the 787-9, increasing passenger capacity by 15%, enough for 40 passengers. Also, the standard 6,430 nautical mile (11908.36 kilometer) range of the 787-10 covers over 90% of the world’s twin-aisle routes while seating around 300 to 330 passengers.

Thus far, the 787-10 has 153 orders from nine customers around the world, accounting to 13 percent of all 787 order count.
