Lufthansa Cargo has named an MD-11 freighter ‘Namaste India’. The aircraft which bears the registration D-ALCJ, is a 15 year old McDonnell Douglas MD-11 which is powered by three General Electric CF6-80 engines. The aircraft was named by Dr. Alexis von Hoensbroech, Board Member Products & Sales of Lufthansa Cargo and Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, at a ceremony at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
“Namaste India” is the eighth Lufthansa Cargo aircraft to be renamed in the last few months. The names of the aircraft are based on the winning idea of an open creative competition organised by Lufthansa Cargo in 2013 to rename their entire fleet. The winning idea was “Say hello around the world” and accordingly all the aircraft in the Lufthansa Cargo fleet are now being renamed to greetings in around 20 languages.
Dr. Alexis von Hoensbroech Board Member Products & Sales, Lufthansa Cargo
“The ‘Namaste India’ greeting also illustrates the special bond between Lufthansa Cargo and India. We are proud to be the leading European Cargo Carrier from India to Europe.”
