After many years in the background, the iconic cabin crew of Singapore Airlines, the “Singapore Girl” has made a comeback in a dramatic advertisement by the airline.
For an airline that has an extremely limited presence in the social media space, it was surprising the airline chose to launch the ad on YouTube.

[bsu_pullquote align=”right”]To remove the Singapore Girl icon from SIA is like removing Mickey Mouse from Disneyland[/bsu_pullquote]The cabin crew of Singapore Airlines are regarded as the finest in the world, and the Singapore Girl is the de-facto image of the airline. The Straits Times, the national newspaper of Singapore once commented “To remove the Singapore Girl icon from SIA [Singapore Airlines] is like removing Mickey Mouse from Disneyland…”.
In a lilting lullaby and using familiar lyrics “such a gentle way about you” the ad concludes with the traditional punch line “Singapore Girl ….. you’re a great way to fly”
The ad has been shot in four of the airlines largest geographies. San Francisco representing the United States, Jaisalmer representing India, Paris representing Europe, and Wu Zhen representing China. Two notable exceptions are London and Australia where the airline has an extremely strong presence.
The “Singapore Girl across the world” ad series goes back at least 40 years.
