Air India’s regional subsidiary company Airline Allied Services Ltd. (AASL) which operates the brand “Alliance Air” has inducted the first of five new ATR72-600 turbo-props in to its fleet.
The aircraft registered VT-AII, is leased from Singapore-based aircraft lessor Avation. The livery is painted “Air India Regional”. The right side of the aircraft which is painted in English can be seen in this photo by Jaques Panas.
AASL will receive the balance four more AT72-600s from now until July 2015. The ATR 76-600 is the glass cockpit version of the popular AT72-500, and is powered by Pratt & Whitney 127M engines with a maximum take-off power of 2,750 HP each.
The ATR72s are fitted with the new “Armonia Cabin” design and the Air India aircraft are configured in an all economy 70 seat layout.
The airline already has four ATR42-320s along with Bombardier’s CRJ-700 its fleet of regional aircraft.
ATR a part of the Airbus group has a customer support centre in Bangalore.
I think its ATR 72 which has 70 seats. ATR 42 series has only 50 seats
VT-AII has been off the radar since VT-AIT joined the fleet. I wonder why they had to ground just 2 month old aircraft.
VT-AII is due for a routine check after flying X hours. The company is not in possession of the mandatory spare parts which need to be replaced. So in the excellent interest of the taxpayers money, they have decided to ground the aircraft and keep paying the $200,000 monthly lease rental.
