Bangalore airport to close lounges and transit hotel for renovation

Bangalore Airport has announced that it will be closing the airport lounges and transit hotel for renovations. The refurbishment will be done in two phases and will take 18 – 20 months to complete.

There are currently two lounges each in the domestic and international hold areas – operated by Plaza Premium and Above Ground Level (Bird Catering and Lounges). It appears that both lounge operators will be replaced with a single operator – a JV between Gate Group and Travel & Food Service (TFS).

The renovations will begin on 1 June 2019 and will cause the closure of parts of the domestic and international lounges. It is not yet clear if the lounges will be partially open or what will be the effect on passengers.

Kenneth R, Chief Commercial Officer, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL)
“Our vision is to improve our lounge facilities to enhance the on-ground travel experience of our passengers and make the lounges at BLR Airport destinations in themselves. The new lounge concept is aimed at providing the ultimate hospitality experience, innovation and perfect customer service,”

The airport has described the renovated lounges as:

The entire conceptualisation, design and development of the new lounges are being done by BIAL to elevate the overall lounge experience for passengers. The new lounges would offer a great opportunity for bespoke, luxurious & elevating experiences for passengers of BLR Airport by optimising space utilisation and developing a strong F&B. Once renovations are complete, the lounges will provide customers an exceptional and memorable experience, with amenities including Live cooking, Celebrity Chef-curated Menus, Digital Zones, Library, Spa, Barista Bar and Wine Cellar – to name a few. Visitors preparing for a long-haul flight or transit passengers can freshen up using the shower facilities or have themselves pampered at the Spa.
