The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has four airlines, the two best known are Emirates and Etihad from the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively. Fly Dubai is a low-cost carrier based in Dubai and Air Arabia is based in Sharjah, another of the seven emirates.
The UAE was celebrating its 47th national day over the weekend. This year has been celebrated as the ‘Year of Zayed’ – in honour of the 100th birthday of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE.
On Sunday, the four airlines of the Emirates along with the aerobatic team of the UAE airforce – Al Fursan (The Knights) flew a formation flight over the Emirates.
The four passenger aircraft all wearing a ‘Year of Zayed’ decal, took off from Dubai world central airport with the call sign Zayed. The flydubai Boeing 737 MAX 8 as Zayed 1, Air Arabia Airbus A320 as Zayed 2, Etihad Airways Airbus A380 as Zayed 3 and Emirates Airbus A380 as Zayed 4.
