Malaysian low cost carrier AirAsia has received the first A320neo aircraft assembled at the Airbus Final Assembly Line Asia (FALA) in Tianjin, China. The airframe is registered 9M-AGK.
The Chinese line inaugurated in 2008, became the third final assembly line (FAL) of Airbus for single-aisle aircraft. Toulouse, France and Hamburg, Germany are the other two. Airbus has assembled and delivered about 340 aircraft from the Tianjin FAL till date.
AirAsia is the largest airline operator of the A320 Family with total orders exceeding 578 aircraft. This includes orders for 404 A320neo family, just a shade behind India’s IndiGo which tops the list with 430 aircraft on order.
Unlike IndiGo, AirAsia has opted for the CFM LEAP-1A engines, and their neo are configured in an all-economy 186 seat configuration similar to that of India’s GoAir. Both airlines use the new Airbus Space-Flex cabin.
