Jet Airways ups the ante on Singapore Airlines with Boeing 777s

As its Boeing 777-300ERs come of their leases from Etihad Airways, India’s largest private airline, Jet Airways, will deploy these mini-jumbos on the Mumbai Singapore route increasing its capacity by 50%.

The change-over on flights 9W09, 9W12 will occur on August 6, while flights 9W10 and 9W11 will occur a day later, August 7.

Jet Airways Mumbai Singapore schedule

Flight No Origin Departure Destination Arrival
9W 12 Mumbai 01:15 Singapore 09:25
9W 09 Singapore 11:15 Mumbai 14:10
9W 10 Mumbai 09:55 Singapore 18:10 hrs
9W 11 Singapore 20:05 Mumbai 23:00 hrs

Luxurious cabin product

The Jet Airways Boeing 777-300ERs are in a three class configuration, eight luxurious first class suites, 30 business class flat-beds, and 308 economy class.

In 2008, Jet’s 777 first class was voted the best in the world by no less than Business Traveller magazine. The hard product is still very good and compares favourably with global carriers. Each suite features an 81 inch long bed, a 23 inch flat screen monitor, multiple LED lighting options, telephone connectivity, variable lumbar support and an eight point massage system, and storage areas that include a personal hanging wardrobe, dual credenza and under ottoman stowage. The suites can also allow for dining or a meeting for two.

The business class Premiere seats open out to 180 degree flat beds with lumbar support and massage systems.

You can see an extensive photo gallery of Jet’s first and business class aboard their 777s here.

Despite a 32 inch seat pitch, the economy class is a let down, as Jet Airways opted for the bone crushing 10-abreast seating that reduces seat width to a minuscule 17 inches.

Satay on the return

Jet offers a good selection of fine food and wine aboard, including my favourite Bollinger La Grande Annee, Champagne, in business class. Jet will also cock a snook at Singapore Airlines by serving Satay, Singapore’s signature appetizer on its Singapore to Mumbai flights in business class.

London to Singapore

Jet Airways has synced its Mumbai London Heathrow and Mumbai Singapore flight to offer a one stop connection between London and Singapore. Passengers can depart Singapore in the evening and arrive in London early morning. Singapore bound passengers from London have the option both morning and evening arrivals. A stop-over in Mumbai or New Delhi can be taken.

With the 777s on the Singapore route, the airline will now offer a consistent product right through.

Cargo

Jet will also get a belly hold cargo capacity of 26 tonnes, and offer connectivity from Singapore to London Heathrow, Paris, Dubai and Mumbai

Special fares

Jet Airways is offering special fares to Singapore in all three classes.
First class Rs 2,08,983 onwards
Première Rs 69,552 onwards
Economy Rs 21,019 onwards

Any idea of which aircraft Etihad will use on its Delhi-Abu Dhabi route now that they are returning the leased planes to Jet Airways? Also, why isn’t Jet Airways planning a Delhi-Singapore on the 777?

    • I think Etihad will use A321 or A380 as these are the 2 aircrafts currently used on Mumbai-Abu Dhabi route.

Also, high chances are Vistara may start Delhi-Singapore flight once it reaches 20 aircrafts.

  2. Jet should improve it’s services first before comparing itself with Singapore airlines.
For me, Singapore airlines remains my preferred option, irrespective of location. The service quality is simply awesome.

  3. In terms of passenger comfort, this is a great step forward. Jet is already flying A330s BOM-SIN, and the 777s will also further enhance comfort compared to the narrow body 737s they used earlier. .however, service and overall experience on SQ is still unmatched.
