Following the DGCA’s decision to allow unbundling of check-in baggage, low fare carrier SpiceJet has introduced an ultra-low fare of just Rs 999 ($16) which only allows for hand baggage.
These fares which compete head-on with 2AC train fares are valid for booking till April 29, 2015, for travel from July 1 to October 15. The airline says it is offering 150,000 seats for the sale on a first-come first-served basis.
Passengers under this fare can carry one piece of hand luggage which weighs a maximum of seven kilograms, along with a standard sized laptop bag or ladies purse. A passenger can purchase a 15kg check-in baggage add-on for Rs 750 at the airport when checking-in.
These types of fares are quite common in Europe. In the United States low cost carrier Spirit has ultra-low fares which even charges for hand baggage. Now we should wonder when the airlines will think of charging us fares based on our weight? May be I should keep my ideas to myself. I will be the clear loser in that equation.
Spicejet is the best airways when it comes to low cost ticket. I hope they will be able to recover soon and rebuild their image soon.
