Qatar Airways A320neos diverted to IndiGo – Bangalore Aviation

Qatar Airways A320neos diverted to IndiGo

It appears the Airbus A320neos ordered by original launch customer Qatar Airways, are getting diverted to the world’s largest A320neo operator, currently, India’s Indigo.

The Gulf carrier had ordered 34 A320neos powered by the Pratt & Whitney PW100G Geared Turbo-Fan (GTF) engine, and was slated to be the launch customer. However the airline started cancelling airframes in their dispute with engine manufacturer over issues affecting the engine. Read our analysis.

Airbus has since repainted MSN 6772, originally painted in Qatar livery, to IndiGo livery. The airframe originally meant be registered as A7-AJB will now be registered as VT-ITS when delivered to Indigo. Similarly MSN 6829 (A7-AJC) is expected to be delivered to Indigo as VT-ITV as per planespotters.net

Reports suggest as many as four A320neo have been cancelled by Qatar Airways. Airframes MSN 6904 (A7-AJD) and MSN 6945 (A7-AJE) remain parked, without their PW1100G powerplants, near the Airbus facilities in Toulouse, France.

Of the balance 30 A320neo on order, airframer Airbus indicated it was in negotiations with Qatar Airways to convert some of them to the longer A321neo.
