Dubai airport’s dedicated Emirates A380 Concouse A now fully operational

The special concourse dedicated for Emirates’ Airbus A380 superjumbos at Dubai airports is now fully functional.

Concourse A at Terminal 3, Dubai International Airport, is the world’s first purpose-built facility for A380 the aircraft at Dubai International. It features 20 A380 capable contact gates, and 29,000 square metres of Emirates’ First and Business class lounges. The concourse has 11 floors and a total built-up area of 528,000 square metres, and is connected to Concourse B and Terminal 3 via an underground train.

In the first month of limited operations, with four gates, the concourse has handled 461,972 pieces of luggage, served over 2,450 flights with 589,234 passengers.

Concourse A will boost the airport’s annual passenger capacity by 15 million to 75 million. The Dubai Airports company has a $7.8 billion ‘Strategic Plan 2020’ which will further increase passenger capacity by another 15 million by 2018.
